Handbell Choir
Tempo! Music Therapy Services will be continuing to facilitate a chime (handbell) choir this summer. Students will learn to work together as a group as well as benefit individually. No prior musical experience or ability to read music is required. This enrichment chime (handbell) choir will have an opportunity for performance at the end of the summer session. Therapeutic benefits include social interaction, cognitive benefits, physical benefits, and the group will also be an outlet for emotional and musical expression.
Requirements
- Ability to understand and process verbal cues
- Eye contact is important but can be learned in some cases
- Ability to grasp hand chimes with at least one hand
Spring Session
Starts April 8, 2008 and runs for ten weeks
Day/Time
Tuesday 6:00 - 6:45 p.m., approximate ages 13 +
NEW GROUP
Beginning this Spring, date is TBA and runs for 6 weeks.
5:30-6:00 p.m., approximate ages 6-9
Please note that space is limited to approximately 12 children. Schulmerich tone chimes will be used during the spring session. A performance opportunity will be available at the conclusion of the summer session as it is our belief that performances for peers as well as parents and other groups will support the children’s self concept and self esteem. The students will learn to contribute to the group as a whole. There is a required free screening to enter this program.
This group will be led by master level music therapist, Suzanne Graves at Tempo! Music Therapy’s office in West Chester, PA. Ms. Graves is the co-director of the “Joybells” of Melmark. Please notify us if your child may want to participate in this group as space is limited.
