S.M.I.L.E. Groups
(Sensory integrative, Musical, Interpersonal, Learning, Experience)
Tempo! Music Therapy Services proudly announces new socialization groups forming for children with developmental delays affecting sensory processing, forming meaningful relationships with peers, ability to process outside stimuli. These socialization groups will be facilitated by a board certified music therapist (MT-BC) and a sensory integration trained occupational therapist (OTR/L) who are familiar with the concepts of Dr. Stanley Greenspan’s model. The emphasis of the groups will include sensory integration, rhythmical timing, and principles developed by Dr. Stanley Greenspan. The sessions will be comprised of no more than 6 children based on age and needs and will be held on Thursdays after school. We will be using space at the Magnolia School in Berwyn, PA.

- Sessions will run weekly on a school calendar.
- Prior musical experience is not required
- TSS workers and siblings are strongly encouraged to attend with the participating child
Emphasis will be placed on:
- Sensory-Motor and Dramatic Play
- Socialization
- Spontaneous and Affective Language and Communication
- Fine and Gross Motor Skill Development
- Flexibility to allow for initiative and assertiveness
- Self Confidence and promoting a sense of self
- Music as regulation
- Movement as regulation
- Increase attention span through prolonged interactions
- Following Social Cues (Verbal and Nonverbal)

Activities may include
- Playing musical instruments
- Singing
- Dancing
- Passing Games
- Drumming
- Incorporating sensory integration approach to using equipment such as swings, physioballs, sensory toys, . . .
- Interactive Hiding and Seeking Games
Enrollment is rolling throughout the school year based on space in the program.
